The Vice President, Sen. Kashim Shettima, has commended the contribution of the Tijjaniyya Islamic sect in fostering unity among the Muslim community in the country.
This was just as Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, urged all Muslims to continue to pray for Allah’s blessings and His protection against perpetrators of evil.
The Vice President made the commendation while speaking at the 2025 Maulud celebration for the late Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, the spiritual leader of the Tijjaniyya sect, at Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
According to a statement signed by Mr Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the Kano State governor’s spokesperson, VP Shettima, who was represented by Alhaji Babagana Fannami, praised the Muslim sect for standing over the past century in true teachings of Islam.
Shettima, who was the special guest of honour at the occasion, eulogised the guiding principles of the ‘Sufi’ sect to humanity.
He also emphasised the unwavering tenacity of the Tijjaniyya sect to lessons of Prophet Muhammad rather than compromising matters of the jurisprudence of Islam.
He, therefore, reminded Muslims to emulate the true teachings of Islam and avoid extremism.
The Chief host, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, equally lauded the efforts of the Tijjaniyya sect in maintaining peace and harmonious relationships with other sects in Nigeria.
“We should also continue to pray to Allah to continue to bless all Nigerians, grant them economic prosperity, unity, and good health,” Yusuf said.
He made the call in his address at the 39th Sheikh Ibrahim Inyas Maulud held at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, on Saturday.
He said Kano has a strong connection with the Tijjaniyya Islamic Movement as the late Emir Abdullahi Bayero was the one that brought the late leader of the sect, Sheikh Ibrahim Inyas, to Nigeria.
The Governor also disclosed that this was the third time Kano hosted the Sheikh Ibrahim Inyas Maulud since it started in the country, and thanked Allah for bestowing the honour on the state.
Earlier, the leader of the Tijjaniyya Islamic Movement in Nigeria and the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sunusi II, said the state was happy to receive the participants of the event whom he described as “the Guests of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and the Guests of our leader, Sheikh Ibrahim Inyas.”
Sanusi thanked members of the families of the late Sheikh Inyas as well as other members of the movement who came from Senegal, the Niger Republic, Morocco, Mauritania, and Nigeria for their participation.
He also thanked Governor Abba Yusuf, his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, and other officials of the State Government for successfully hosting the event.
It will be recalled that the police attempted to halt the Maulud over an alleged security threat, which the Government has dismissed as a fake and unfounded claim.
