Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido has weighed in on the ongoing conversation surrounding Nigeria’s so-called ‘Big 3’, himself, Wizkid, and Burna Boy, saying the culture has grown far beyond the trio.
In an interview with The Breakfast Club which started trending on Tuesday, the Unavailable crooner clarified that while he doesn’t maintain a personal relationship with either artiste at the moment, he believes the focus should shift from rivalry to unity for the growth of the genre.
“I don’t have a personal relationship with them. I did at some point in time. But I feel like the culture is just so big, and the conversation is bigger than the Big 3 right now — and that’s just the honest truth,” Davido said.
Highlighting the rise of new-generation stars, he added, “There is Rema, Arya Starr, there are so many artiste for us to just make this thing about us. I feel like right now the three of us understand that it is bigger than us and whatever it takes for the culture to grow, whichever way we’re all for it.”.
When asked about the possibility of a collaborative record between the three megastars, Davido didn’t rule it out but pointed to behind-the-scenes tensions.
Davido added, “I mean it is not impossible, but I feel like people around us wouldn’t want that to happen. Some people make money off us not being cool, I guess, but with me, there have been situations where we’ve all been cool.”
