Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface is on the verge of winning the Bundesliga title with Bayer Leverkusen this season.
Boniface was not part of the squad that fought back from a goal down to beat Hoffenheim 2-1 on Saturday.
Leverkusen are now 13 points clear at the top of the table, following Bayern Munich’s 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
Karim Adeyemi’s well-taken strike opened the scoring for the visitors after just 10 minutes.
Julian Ryerson then doubled their lead with just seven minutes left to play, as Dortmund won at the Allianz for the first time in almost exactly a decade.
Xabi Alonso’s Leverkusen now need just three more wins to be confirmed German champions for the first time in the club’s history.
