The Police in Adamawa State has confirmed the looting of a truck loaded with 600 bags of fertilizer.
The fertilizer, meant for farmers in the Demsa Local Government Area, was looted where the truck conveying it fell on the road, close to the palace of the paramount ruler of Demsa.
The truckload of 600 bags of assorted brands of fertilizer was said to be procured by the state government to meet the needs of farmers in the area.
The Demsa Local Council Chairman, Akam Sanda Jallo, said the vendor of the said fertilizer made the costly mistake of not informing him of the trip to convey the materials to the Palace of Hama Batta, the Demsa paramount ruler, where it was meant to be kept safe prior to distribution to targeted beneficiaries.
“The vendor saddled with the transportation of the fertiliser from Yola would have waited to get go-ahead instructions from me before bringing the fertilizer to Demsa,” the council chairman said.
The chairman said however that the council has identified a prime suspect believed to have been engineering vandals to loot the fertilizer.
He refrained from naming the alleged suspect but dismissed a rumor that the looters were youths engaging in the hunger protests.
Confirming the looting of the fertilizer, the Police Public Relations Officer in Adamawa State, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said Police operatives were on the matter working hard to get to all those involved.
“The looters are not those protesting in the state. The #EndBadGovernmance people in Adamawa State have been very peaceful.”
