Prowess University, Delaware, US, over the weekend, conferred an honourary doctorate degree on Chief Gbenga Clement Obilade, and 10 others.
The event, which is the 10th LEADERSHIP SUMMIT/INDUCTION/HONORARY DOCTORATE DEGREE AWARD, with the theme ‘CREATIVITY & INNOVATION PANACEA FOR IMPROVED CORPORATE PERFORMANCE’ held at the University of Ibadan, on Saturday.
Chief Obilade was awarded a doctorate degree (honoris causa) in Business Management, in line with his contributions to the entrepreneurship world and philanthropic activities.
Obilade, an oil and gas merchant, and the chairman of the Gbenga Obilade’s Foundation (GOF), expressed gratitude to Prowess University, particularly to the Business Administration department, for finding him deserving of the award.
In his acceptance speech, the honoree, who dedicated the award to his wife, children, and team members of the Gbenga Obilade’s Foundation, pledged his commitment to providing succour to the needy and /or communities at large.

According to him, “As a business entrepreneur, I see the need for helping people and giving back to communities. I believe in giving to people from what God has blessed me with. This was recognised and therefore led to the conferment of this award.”
While admonishing the younger generation to remain perseverant and imbibe the act of humanitarian assistance, he promised to extend his philanthropic supports to the communities within Egbeda/Ona-Ara local government areas.
“I expect people of Egbeda and Ona-Ara to have a reflection in this award in line with everything we are doing within the communities, and I expect the communities to subscribe with plans and policies our foundation have for them, and I’m assuring them that each and every household will be touched within a limited time,” he added.
The highlight of the event was the decoration of African honorees, and conferment of fellowship on outstanding members of the public, as well as attendance from academics, thought leaders, government representatives at all levels.
