Morgan State University in the United States has commended the continuous support of Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, founder of Maryam Abacha American University in Niger, Nigeria (MAAUN), for his pragmatic efforts in boosting the education sector not only in Nigeria but also outside the country.
The authority of Morgan State University made this commendation while presenting Professor Gwarzo with a Recognition Award for Distinguished Scholarship, Leadership, and Edupreneurship 2025.
According to the university, education is the bedrock of any positive development and the best heritable legacy any parents can bequeath to children, who are the leaders of tomorrow.
It was emphasised that Professor Gwarzo, having realised the immense contribution that education possesses in enhancing technological know-how, has diverted his God-endowed wealth to establish schools in the state.
Morgan State University further stated that although the award coincided with Professor Gwarzo’s 47th birthday anniversary, the school authority was happy that it came at the right time.
Accordingly, the certificate of award and achievement was signed by the Executive Director of Global Partnerships Africa, Professor Hakeem I. Tijjani, and made available to the press in Kano.
It was also stated that Professor Gwarzo, who is the President of the MAAUN Group of Universities, founded Maryam Abacha American University in Niger, Nigeria, Franco-British International University, Kaduna, and Canadian University, Abuja, was also recognised as the 2025 Distinguished African Edupreneur—an uncommon endowment for human capacity development.
Morgan State University, founded in 1867, is a Carnegie-classified high research (R2) institution providing instruction to a multiethnic, multiracial, multinational student body and offering more than 140 academic programmes leading to degrees from the baccalaureate to the doctorate.
As Maryland’s Preeminent Public Urban Research University, Morgan fulfils its mission to address the needs and challenges of the modern urban environment through intense community-level study and pioneering solutions.
