The Vice Chancellor, University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo in Ondo State, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi has called for the support of stakeholders in the university for the overall development of the institution.
This is even as the Vice Chancellor highlighted his achievements in office, especially in the outgone year 2024, saying that the achievements recorded in the last one year were overwhelming.
While soliciting for the assistance of all the staff, students and other key stakeholders of the university in the new year, the Vice Chancellor notes that the university has the potential to achieve all it’s vision and mission if all the stakeholders work together.
In his new year message released by the Public Relations Officer of the university, Mr Isaac Oluyi, the Vice Chancellor explained that the collaborative efforts of the management and the state government yielded good results in the outgone year with the overwhelming achievements recorded which included the installation of the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Kiladejo as the first chancellor of the 10 years old university.
He listed some of the achievements recorded in the outgone year to include admission of first set of students for Bachelor of Speech Therapy programme.
Continuing, Prof Fatusi said “we confronted the issue of accreditation of our Bachelor of Radiography and Radiation Science programme with purchase of essential equipments and recruitment of new staff.
“In December 2024, we received the gift of a six building guest house. Against all odds and for the first time, the convocation was held at our main campus on the 12th of December 2024.
“We completed our new health centre complex and the state Governor, Hon Lucky Aiyedatiwa commissioned it on Friday, 13th of December 2024.
That same day, the Governor also laid the foundation of the Senate building at the main campus.
“At the special convocation ceremony of 13th December 2024, we awarded our first set of honorary degrees and his Imperial Majesty, the Osemawe and paramount ruler of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Adesimbo Kiladejo was installed as the first Chancellor of the university.
“God helped us as a community to focus on the vision and mission rather than the distractions. Indeed, the Lord in His mercy, turned the counsel and campaigns of calumny to nought and it could not stop the advancement of the university.
“Among others, for the first time, we admitted over 1,000 students in 2024. In the same year, UNIMED was honoured by the state government, through the Office of the Head of Service, with the distinguished Public Service Award,” he added.
He called for the support of the state government, the management, staff and students of the university to achieve more this year for the good of the university.
