The Federal Government has unveiled the Youth Farmers Enrolment Portal to address unemployment and insecurity across the nation.
The Honourable Minister of Youth Development, Comrade Ayodele Olawande, announced the development during a launch ceremony in Abuja.
According to him, the initiative, developed in partnership with the Nigerian Youth Economic Engagement and De-Radicalisation Programme (NIYEEDEP), is aimed at creating economic opportunities for youth and bolstering the nation’s agricultural sector.
He noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic agenda of ensuring that youth actively participate in the country’s economic development.
The minister added that the initiative will create no fewer than six million direct jobs for youths in 2025 across the agriculture, food and beverage, and agro-allied sectors.
He described the portal as an innovative platform offering access to agricultural training programmes, modern farming techniques, mentorship opportunities, financial support, and resources to start or expand agricultural ventures for individuals aged 18 to 35.
Olawande, however, enjoined young Nigerians to maximise the opportunity of the initiative to contribute to national development through agriculture.
“This intervention is designed to align young people with the economic agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, promoting active youth participation in economic development,” he said.
“This initiative is not just about increasing food production; it is about empowering young Nigerians with sustainable skills, creating jobs in rural and urban areas, and ensuring the welfare and security of our citizens.”
Interested youths can take part in the initiative by visiting www.niyeedep.org for enrolment.
