Ukraine: Russia mocks France, UK over troop deployment

Russia on Thursday teased about the plans by France and the United Kingdom to mobilize troop deployment to bolster security in Ukraine.

At a briefing, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova called the move to station a multinational peacekeeping contingent in Ukraine “insane.”

She noted that despite their efforts, France and the U.K. were yet to rally adequate support of other members of the European Union.

Zakharova said it was clear that the coalition can not achieve its military intervention plan without the backing of the United States.

“Judging by the current discussions, Washington still has no intention of becoming involved in such an adventure.

“It seems to be realistically assessing where all this could lead,” the Russian government official added.

Speaking on the missile strike on Palm Sunday, Zakharova said President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is “certainly” responsible for the consequences.

The spokeswoman explained that the Russia’s Armed Forces targeted the venue where a Ukrainian command staff meeting was being held in Sumy.

Zakharova said faced with the facts, Zelensky dismissed the head of the Sumy military administration Volodymyr Artyukh and also “confirmed the charges against him.”
