Atletico Madrid manager, Diego Simeone has singled out three of his players, Koke, Memphis Depay and Antoine Griezmann for special praise following his side’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 victory against Inter Milan on Wednesday.
Simeone watched as Atletico Madrid defeated Inter Milan 3-2 on penalties in the round of 16 second leg encounter in Spain.
Inter had won 1-0 in the first leg a few weeks ago.
However, the return leg match on Wednesday night ended 2-2 on aggregate, thanks to two goals from Griezmann and Depay before the host won on penalty.
Speaking after the game, Simeone said, as quoted by UEFA’s official website: “Our people, our fans, are decisive in our stadium. The whole world could see that, and it made our players grow today against an incredible opponent.
“Koke gave his all out there, and Griezmann went on until he could not run any more. Memphis came on and showed up when we really needed him.
“This is what we needed. Being among the eight might sound easy, but it is no.”
