Twelve terrorists were on Monday killed and their camps destroyed by the troops of the Nigerian Army in Zamfara State.
Major General Onyema Nwachukwu, the Director, Army Public Relations, in a statement on Tuesday, explained that acting on credible intelligence on the activities of the terrorists, troops conducted a targeted clearance operation to dismantle the suspected terrorists’ operational base in the town of Maru.
“In a fierce gun battle with the terrorists, the gallant troops neutralised 12 of the terrorists, compelling the others to flee,” he said.
The troops, he added destroyed the terrorists’ base after dislodging them.
According to him, weapons recovered include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, 12 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and two locally fabricated guns.
Ten motorcycles and 18 rustled cows were also recovered.
Nwachukwu assured of the commitment of the Nigerian Army to fight terrorism and insurgency.
The Nigerian Army, he said, remains committed to ensuring the safety and security of citizens and will continue to take decisive action to curb terrorists’ activities in the North-West.
