Students in 15 schools in Oyo State have received a total of 17,832 books under the Renewed Hope Initiative of the wife of the President, Mrs Remi Tinubu.
The initiative, in conjunction with the wife of the Oyo State Governor, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde, saw each student receive a pack of 60 leaves books, at the event held at Islamic High School, Basorun.
Some of the benefitting schools were: Islamic High School, Basorun; Government Secondary School Oriita.
Aperin; Army Barrack Grammar School, lwo Road; Ratibi College, Oluyoro; St. Theresa College, lbadan; I.M.G Grammar School, Agodi; Ibadan City academy, Eleta lbadan; Wesley College, Elekuro Ibadan.
Before handing over the books, the Oyo governor’s wife, represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs Toyin Balogun, charged the students to squarely face their studies for them to be impactful in society.
She further admonished students to be keen to take advantage of opportunities for them to realize their potential in life.
Makinde said: “The students should take advantage of all the opportunities and other interventions of government that are designed to make life easier for our children.
“They should key into these opportunities, squarely face their studies so as to be productive members of the society.”
Speaking, the Principal of Islamic High School, Basorun, Mr Babatunde Fasasi lauded the gesture while noting that like Oliver Twist, schools want more of such donations.
After the book donation, Tinubu’s wife also gave out 1,750 bags of rice to women, widows, and vulnerable persons in the state.
Mrs Tamunominini Makinde represented Mrs Tinubu at the event held at the office of the wife of the Oyo state governor, Agodi Secretariat, Ibadan.
Speaking on behalf of Mrs Tinubu, Makinde said the food items were distributed to help cushion the effects of present challenging times on Nigerians.
Makinde also supported the Tinubu initiative by handing cash to the benefiting individuals.
Makinde urged the beneficiaries to make good use of the support and pray for the country’s leaders to make wise decisions.
She also commended Mrs Tinubu for her kindness and generosity towards the people of Oyo State.
The beneficiaries included widows, orphanage homes, religious associations and other individuals drawn from the 33 local government areas of the state.
