The Presidency has said President Bola Tinubu’s historic three-day state visit is aimed at fortifying the longstanding relations between Nigeria and France.
In a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the Presidency said Tinubu, accompanied by the First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, arrived in Paris on Wednesday evening and touched down at Orly Airport at approximately 5:10 p.m. local time, where they were greeted with full military honours by the French Republican Guard, marking a ceremonial start to their visit.
The official engagements are set to kick off on Thursday at the historic Les Invalides, where President Tinubu will be warmly received by French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron. Following this initial meeting, the Nigerian leader will attend a distinguished reception at the Palais de l’Élysée, further emphasizing the importance of this diplomatic visit.
The primary objective of President Tinubu’s visit Onanuga said is to enhance bilateral ties between Nigeria and France across several key sectors. The discussions will focus on vital areas such as agriculture, security, education, health care, youth engagement, innovation, and energy transition. This multifaceted approach is anticipated to yield substantial benefits for Nigeria and its citizens.
In collaboration with President Macron, President Tinubu will address initiatives aimed at boosting youth exchange programmes. These initiatives are designed to enhance skills in automation, entrepreneurship, and leadership among young Nigerians, fostering a new generation of innovators and leaders.
Additionally, the two leaders will engage in strategic political and diplomatic discussions centred around shared values concerning finance, solid minerals, trade and investment, as well as communication. This dialogue aims to create a framework for increased cooperation between the two nations
As part of the visit, both leaders will participate in a session hosted by the France-Nigeria Business Council. This session will focus on coordinating private sector involvement in economic development initiatives that promise to stimulate growth and create jobs in Nigeria.
First Lady Brigitte Macron will also meet with Nigeria’s First Lady Oluremi Tinubu to discuss empowering women, children, and vulnerable populations through the Renewed Hope Initiative. This initiative aims to promote social welfare programs that uplift marginalized communities in Nigeria.
The state visit will culminate in a formal state dinner hosted by President Macron for President Tinubu and his wife before their departure. This dinner is expected to serve as a platform for furthering discussions on strengthening bilateral relations while celebrating the cultural ties that bind Nigeria and France.
