President Bola Tinubu has dispatched a high-level delegation to Jigawa State following a tragic tanker explosion in Majiya that resulted in over 100 fatalities.
According to a statement issued by Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the delegation, led by Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, includes key ministers and officials tasked with assessing the situation and providing support to victims.
In a heartfelt statement, President Tinubu expressed his condolences, stating, “My heart aches for those who have had their families torn apart by this disaster.”
He emphasised the need for immediate emergency aid, including medical supplies, food, and shelter for the approximately 50 victims currently receiving treatment.
The President further pledged a comprehensive review of fuel transportation safety protocols to prevent future tragedies.
He directed the Federal Roads Safety Corps (FRSC) to enhance safety measures during night travel, including increased patrols and stricter enforcement of regulations. “Those found responsible for breaches of safety standards will be held accountable,” he reaffirmed, emphasising the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring such incidents do not recur.
