Speaking at the combined 34th and 35th convocation ceremonies of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA), where Pastor Olukoya was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in Management Science, Tinubu, represented by the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Professor Wahab Egbewole, praised Olukoya for his dedication to education and social upliftment. He noted that Olukoya’s philanthropic efforts and commitment to empowering the less privileged have set a high standard for others to follow.
“Professor Olukoya’s investment in education and his passion for uplifting society are highly commendable. He serves as a mentor and role model, and I urge others to emulate him,” Tinubu said.
Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa also lauded Olukoya for his transformative impact on lives through his personal efforts and ministry. He highlighted Olukoya’s initiatives, including the construction of a Microbiology Laboratory at FUTA, the provision of scholarships, and monetary rewards for First-Class graduates, as significant contributions to youth development.
“The award conferred on Professor Olukoya is well deserved. He has demonstrated selfless service to humanity through mentoring, prayers, and other means. His contributions inspire young people to strive for excellence in their careers and become valuable members of society,” Aiyedatiwa stated.
FUTA Vice-Chancellor Professor Adenike Oladiji explained that the honorary doctorate recognised Olukoya’s unwavering support for education and science. She emphasised his role in fostering academic excellence through scholarships, infrastructure development, and other initiatives that have benefited FUTA and beyond.
“Professor Olukoya’s commitment to human and capital development is remarkable. He has not only supported the advancement of science and technology but has also contributed to the happiness and well-being of others,” Oladiji remarked.
In his response, Professor Olukoya expressed gratitude to FUTA for the honour. He reiterated his belief in the power of making a positive impact on others, both spiritually and physically.
“Adding value to people’s lives gives me great joy. Our purpose in life is to positively impact others,” Olukoya said.
A distinguished academic, Olukoya graduated with a Grade One distinction from Methodist Boys’ High School and earned a First-Class degree in Microbiology from the University of Lagos. This year alone, he provided monetary rewards to 492 First-Class graduates in addition to his ongoing full scholarships for students across various institutions.
