From Fred Ezeh, Abuja
The Bishop of Sokoto Catholic Diocese, Mathew Hassan Kukah, has described the recent siting of two new federal institutions, Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, and Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Kafanchan, both in the Southern Kaduna area as major drivers for the desired growth and development of the area.
He stated this at the inauguration of the principal officers, as well as the governing council of the university by the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, in Abuja, on Friday.
Bishop Kukah who serves as the Pro-chancellor of the university, said with the development, 60 per cent of the challenges of the Southern Kaduna have been solved, appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the desire to bring significant growth and development to Southern Kaduna.
He said: “Many of us ordinary people think that God, sometimes, comes late because He seems not to answer our prayers. But whenever God comes, when He comes late, challenges come to the end. This is God’s own moment. Nigeria may have its own problems, and it will continue to have its own problems, but I can assure you that 60 per cent of the problems of Southern Kaduna have been solved. “We will not look back, because if God wanted us to look back, he would have given us, at least, one eye in the back of our heads. We have, and we know absolutely, no bitterness. We are, despite everything else, we’re still one of the most educated parts of the whole of Northern Nigeria. Despite our inability to be provided with the navigational aids, today, Southern Kaduna has not less than over 200 professors, covering different fields of human development. “The education that we had that has brought us so far, that people like me benefited from, came from the missionaries. And up till today, some of the best schools in Southern Kaduna are schools that government took over from the missionaries. But as I said, we have soldiered on, and come to where we are.”
