President Bola Tinubu on Thursday, commissioned newly built military barracks to provide accommodation to Nigerian Army personnel in Abuja.
The accommodation facility named “Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks” is located in the Asokoro area and provides quarters for personnel of the Army including 16 Major Generals quarters, 34 Brigadier Generals quarters, 60 Major-Colonel flats, 60 Lieutenant Captain flats, and 180 senior Non-Commissioned Officers blocks of flats. Others include 264 corporal and below flats.
The newly constructed barracks built to address the acute shortage of accommodation for personnel of Army Headquarters as well as other army establishments, has facilities including sports, worship centers, network of roads, and a power house among others.
Commissioning the project, President Tinubu described men and officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces as heroes of Nigeria and pledged continuous commitment to their welfare.
“You are our heroes, and I thank you for what you have been doing for this country,” the President stated.
President Tinubu, who noted their service as remarkable, assured the military of his administration’s continued commitment to improve the welfare of the Nigerian Army.
“What you are doing for Nigeria is remarkable. The only way to appreciate it is to continue to show support to the men and women in uniform,” the President added.
He underscored the importance of the welfare of the men and officers of the Nigerian military, noting that the barracks project aligns with the federal government’s commitment to enhancing troops’ welfare.
“Knowing that the federal government is always ready to provide what the troops need is essential for winning battles,” he said.
President Tinubu further assured that his administration will not compromise on the welfare of the troops.
The project, which was conceptualised by Major General Philip Eromosele, commenced on November 26th, 2022, and was fully funded by the late Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.
The current Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, on assumption of duty, completed the construction of the barracks to forestall the acute shortage of living accommodation for Nigerian Army personnel serving in Abuja. The project was completed on January 9, 2025.
Present at the event were National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu; Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Defence Badaru Abubakar; Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin; Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas; Chairman of the Senate Committee on Armed Forces, AbdulAziz Yar’adua; and chairman of the House Committee on Defence.
