In a move aimed at enhancing educational opportunities in the region, President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna.
This comes as discussions continue to establish a Federal Medical Centre in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, during a condolence visit to the Kukah family following the passing of His Highness Yohanna Sidi Kukah, the Agwom Akulu of Ikulu Chiefdom, visited Ikulu Kingdom in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area.
According to a statement by his media aide, Stanley Nkwocha, the VP said:
“With Senator Katung and the member of the House of Representatives, we have reached out to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and he has consented to the establishment of a federal university in Southern Kaduna,” Shettima said.
The Vice President highlighted that this initiative is part of a broader strategy by the Tinubu administration to address the developmental needs of Southern Kaduna. He pointed out that the recent appointment of General Christopher Musa as Chief of Defence Staff reflects the government’s focus on enhancing security in the region, which has faced various challenges over the years.
“Be rest assured that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the people of Kaduna and Southern Kaduna at heart,” Shettima assured those gathered at the Kukah family residence. He commended Governor Uba Sani for his inclusive governance approach, emphasising that effective governance involves connecting all community segments to foster a sense of belonging.
In his remarks, Bishop Matthew Kukah expressed heartfelt gratitude to Vice President Shettima for his visit during this difficult time for their family.
He acknowledged the challenges faced by residents due to poor road conditions, stating, “It took you around three and a half hours to get here. The road is largely broken.” The Bishop expressed hope that the federal government would prioritise infrastructure development in the region, reinforcing Shettima’s commitment to working alongside state authorities to ensure that Southern Kaduna receives its fair share.
