President Bola Tinubu has appointed Jami’u Abiola as the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Linguistics and Foreign Matters, effective November 14, 2024, in line with the provisions of the Certain Political and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc) Act 2008, as amended.
Abiola is a polyglot, fluent in multiple languages including Arabic, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Yoruba, Hausa, Japanese, Igbo, Fulani, and Kanuri.
Jami’u Abiola, son of the late Moshood Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election, brings a wealth of experience to his new role.
According to a statement signed by Director, Information and Public Relations for Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Segun Imohiosen, prior to this appointment, Abiola served as the Special Assistant on Special Duties in the Office of the Vice President.
In his new position, he is tasked with collaborating closely with the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs to enhance Nigeria’s diplomatic engagements.
His linguistic skills are expected to play a crucial role in facilitating communication and fostering international relations.
Abiola’s educational background includes postgraduate certificates from New York University specializing in translation. His professional experience includes translating documents for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and working with a leading translation agency.
His appointment reflects President Tinubu’s commitment to leveraging expertise within his administration to fulfill campaign promises and strengthen Nigeria’s position on the global stage.
