President Bola Tinubu has approved a significant leadership reshuffle at two federal universities, the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) and the Federal University Lokoja.
Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who announced the decision on Wednesday, said it involves the immediate swap of Pro-Chancellors and Chairmen of the Governing Councils for both institutions.
Victor Ndoma-Egba, currently serving as the Pro-Chancellor of the Federal University Lokoja, will now take over at FUOYE. In turn, Kayode Ojo, who previously held the position at Oye-Ekiti, will assume leadership of Lokoja University.
He stated, “This strategic change is part of President Tinubu’s initiative to foster diversity and national cohesion in the management of the country’s universities.”
The reshuffle comes amid broader administrative changes in Nigerian universities. President Tinubu earlier dissolved the Governing Council of Nnamdi Azikiwe University over concerns regarding the appointment of an unqualified Vice-Chancellor.
Onanuga emphasised that university councils must adhere to established procedures to ensure effective governance.
As part of this initiative, President Tinubu has urged university councils to focus on their primary responsibilities without creating distractions. “Our government is dedicated to improving education standards in Nigeria,” he remarked.
