A ticketing officer with the Ekiti State Motorcycles Association, Segun Omoyajowo, has been shot dead by unknown gunmen in Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti state capital.
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the deceased, who was on duty at the designated area to issue daily tickets to the riders, was killed by the gunmen around the popular Okesa area of the state capital on Tuesday around 8am.
Eyewitnesses informed our correspondent that the assailants numbering three on a motorcycle stormed the spot close to the traffic light, fired at him at close range, and escaped from the scene.
One of the sources said, “The incident happened around 8am on Tuesday in broad daylight, and these people on Okada killed him and escaped without any form of hindrance.
“He is so popular around that axis, especially among the Okada riders, because he was in charge of issuing them tickets daily around that place.
“If this could happen in the state capital and in a busy area, because if you stand where he was shot dead, you will be looking at the gate of the governor’s office, and they went away, the government and security agencies must be alive to their responsibilities.”
Speaking, the State Chairman of the Ekiti State Okada Riders Association, Kunle Ashaolu, who condemned the gruesome killing of one of his members, called on the security agents to fish out the perpetrators and bring them to justice.
Describing the late Samuel as a dedicated officer of the association, Ashaolu commiserated with the deceased family, assuring them that they would be supported, especially the children left behind by the deceased.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Sunday Abutu, confirmed the killing of the ticketing officer, adding that the command has commenced a discreet investigation in a bid to arrest the assailants.
