Popular Nigerian singer Damini Ogulu, professionally known as Burna Boy has shared an insight into the struggles he faced while he was an upcoming artiste in the Nigerian music industry.
Taking to a comment section of Notjustokay on Instagram, the Grammy Award Winner claimed that certain gatekeepers tried relentlessly to stop his rise.
His comment comes after music executive Obi Asika spoke about how Burna Boy used to fight for slots at various events just to perform for free. Now, he’s surpassed everyone.
While Burna Boy didn’t mention names, he hinted at powerful figures in the industry who, according to him, went out of their way to block his growth and suppress his success.
“This is not even half of the story. They did everything they possibly could to break me. They are even still trying their best lol but all they did was create this unquenchable FIRE that will continue to burn them for eternity.” He wrote
Despite these challenges, Burna Boy has continued to soar, earning global recognition with sold-out shows, and collaborations with international stars.
Below are some of the reactions that trailed the post;
“Na now I see why Burna say nobody paved the way for him… And actually nobody did.“
“They even denied him next rated in Headiest, but they want him to attend that award… Burna is unstoppable“
“Till date the media is after him, magnifying every little thing he does while branding others as humble and principled. Thank God for grace.”
“The major problem in Nigeria is tribalism. I’m so happy that God took him to the greatest height in music. No Nigeria artist dead or alive come close. Today by God’s grace is untouchable musically. Glory be to God“
