The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has confirmed receiving directives from the national body to stage a peaceful protest on February 4, 2025.
In an interview with Arogidigba Global Journal, the Kano NLC Chairman, Comrade Kabiru Inuwa, stated, “We received this directive this evening, and we will convene a meeting of the union leaders in Kano on 2nd February 2025, to make a decision.”
Comrade Inuwa reaffirmed their commitment to following the national leadership’s directives at all times but emphasized the need for caution. “We always remain loyal to the national body, but at the same time, we consider the overall interest of the public. We do not want anything that could lead to unrest among the people,” he said.
Recall that in a statement issued on Wednesday, titled “50% Telecom Tariff Hike: Another Burden Too Harsh!” NLC President Joe Ajaero strongly criticized the increase in telecommunication tariffs approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), describing it as an attack on workers’ welfare.
He emphasized that the tariff hike comes at a time when Nigerians are already grappling with severe economic difficulties
The statement announced that the NLC plans a nationwide protest to hold on Tuesday, February 4
The decision was made during the ongoing National Administrative Council (NAC) meeting of the NLC, aimed at sending a strong message to the government that workers will not tolerate policies that exacerbate economic hardship.
