The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier Gen. Y D Ahmed has advised Corps members to take personal hygiene seriously to curb the spread of cholera.
The DG made this known during his visit to the NYSC Oyo Permanent Orientation Camp, Iseyin where the 2024 Batch B stream one Corps members deployed to the Oyo State for their one-year mandatory national service are undergoing their orientation exercise.
Ahmed commended the Corps members for being conscious of the cholera outbreak due to their clean environment and advised them to continue to take both their personal and collective hygiene seriously.
The DG also assured Corps members of security stating that the management of the scheme will ensure that Corps members are posted to safe areas as they are very conscious of their security.
Ahmed congratulated them on the successful completion of their academic sojourn which has made it possible for them to be mobilized for National service.
Furthermore, the NYSC boss charged the Corps members to abide by the rules of the scheme such as wearing the NYSC uniform, asking them to always dress properly to command respect. Also, he warned against transmitting camp activities on social media, saying “It is a violation of the scheme’s rules.”
He also urged them to see themselves as brothers and sisters in the camp, respect and appreciate each other’s opinions and understand that Nigeria is truly diverse.
On the Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED), Ahmed encouraged them to focus and take advantage of it, as it is targeted at making them independent and self-reliant.
He said, “SAED is devised to make you an independent adult, therefore support yourself with skills. Soft loans are available for you through our stakeholders such as the Central Bank, Leventis Foundation, Kudimata and some others if you can present a good business proposal. Take this opportunity so that you can prepare yourself for life after service.”
Speaking earlier, the NYSC Oyo State Coordinator, Mr. Odoba Abel Oche appreciated the DG for having the Corps members at heart.
He informed the DG that the Corps members have been of good conduct and participating actively in all camp activities.
