Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke has charged cors members deployed to Osun State for the mandatory one year service to take full advantage of the opportunities of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and apply themselves wholeheartedly during the Orientation Course.
Governor Adeleke gave this charge on Friday during the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2024 Batch C Stream II orientation programme at the NYSC permanent orientation camp, Ede.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, Governor Adeleke while harping on discipline urged the corps members to be law abiding and fully committed to the core values of Nigeria and the ideas of the scheme.
He said, “As young leaders in the making, I charge you to take full advantage of these opportunities and apply yourselves wholeheartedly during this Orientation Course. Discipline, as you know, is the bedrock of success. As you go through this phase, I urge you to be law-abiding, disciplined, and fully committed to the core values of our nation and the ideals of the NYSC. Let your conduct during this period set the tone for a fulfilling service year.”
Calling on the corps members to be good ambassadors of their respective families, state and Nigeria, Governor Adeleke encouraged the corps members to be selfless and tolerant.
“These values are essential not only for your service year but for life itself. Build good relationships and make friends across the divides of tribe and religion. The friendships you make here may last a lifetime and contribute to the unity of our great nation.”
He also commended the NYSC for its continued role in fostering national integration, youth development and capacity building.
“The NYSC Scheme since its inception, has continued to play an indispensable role in fostering national integration, youth development and capacity building. Through various well-designed programmes, the Scheme has sharpened the lives of countless young Nigerians, empowering them with skills and values that transcend their service year.”
In his address the NYSC Osun State, Agbor Ndoma Obim revealed that a total number of 2900 corps members were deployed to the state for the mandatory service year.
Agbor disclosed that of the 1,720 corps members, 772 are males and 948 are females while a total of 1,113 were dislodged from Lagos State.
He stated that the NYSC has remained a significant national asset since its Inception, contributing to nation building through mobilisation for service and development.
“The Scheme’s four cardinal programmes are structured and carefully designed to equip you with the skills, discipline, and mindset necessary to contribute meaningfully to society. These programmes are the Orientation Course, Primary Assignment, Community Development Service (CDS), and Winding- up and Passing-out Ceremony.”
The NYSC State Coordinator charged the corps members to note that embracing the orientation course is more than a choice but an investment in personal and national growth.
He also commended that Osun State Government for its unwavering support for the scheme.
The national pledge and NYSC oath of allegiance was administered on the corps members by the state’s Chief Judge Oyetola Adepele Ojo by her representative, Justice Joseph Olukunle Owolari.
