Tragedy struck in wee hours of Monday in Ondo, as Fisayo Oladipo, a former youth leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Owo, was killed by suspected gunmen believed to be cultists.
The incident occurred in the Owo local government area of Ondo.
Oladipo, 52, was a well-known figure in the community, and his death has sent shockwaves throughout the region.
The circumstances surrounding the attack are still unclear, but it’s reported that his remains have been moved to a morgue.
The killing has sparked tension in Owo, prompting security agencies to deploy personnel to maintain peace and prevent any potential unrest. This incident is the latest in a series of violent attacks in the region, including an alleged cult clash that left two people dead.
The commander of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), also confirmed the incident to newsmen, saying the tense atmosphere in the town has been calm following the heavy deployment of armed security agencies.
“I can only confirm that we have sent our men down to also assist other security agencies deployed to calm the atmosphere. Our men are on the ground with heavy deployment. I will advise we wait for officials’ reactions,” the NSCDC boss told The Gazette.
