A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Eze Chukwuemeka Eze, has called for the urgent reinstatement of Plateau State House of Assembly members who were sacked by the Appeal Court.
Eze made the call while describing the Supreme Court judgements of 12th January, 2024, as good efforts by the apex court in redeeming its battered Image.
The APC chieftain noted that the Supreme Court judgement on Kano and Plateau States were necessary respites for Nigeria’s troubled democracy.
Eze, an erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New Peoples Democratic Party, nPDP, in a statement made available to reporters in Port Harcourt on Monday, said the Supreme Court judgement had sent a signal that the apex court was committed to redeeming its image, which according to him, was tainted with controversies arising from some pronouncements that were not in tune with the law.
He said Nigerians had already lost hope in the judiciary, especially the Supreme Court, after what he described as the court’s perverse handling of the 2023 Presidential election appeal.
“By their judgements on Kano, Plateau and Zamfara, the apex court has not only rescued itself from the abyss it was before this day of 12th January, 2024, but has saved this nation from the calamitous situation she would have faced in those States, had the judgements been the other way round, which would have been anti-people,” Eze said.
Eze urged that the Plateau lawmakers sacked by the Appeal Court “should be reinstated as a matter of urgency for the interest of fairness and justice.”
