A governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress, APC for the 2025 election in Anambra State, Mr Paul Chukwuma, has condemned the level of insecurity in the state.
Chukwuma was reacting to the recent kidnap of some sports journalists from SuperSports, who were travelling to Uyo from Lagos State to cover the Super Eagles African qualifier match with their Libyan counterparts.
The journalists were kidnapped on their way to Anambra State but were later rescued by security agencies while some of them died and one more was unaccounted for.
The gubernatorial aspirant in a statement released through his spokesperson, Mr James Eze, condemned the attack.
Chukwuma in the statement extended condolences to the families of the deceased, the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, and SuperSport, the Nigerian Army, which reportedly suffered casualties in the rescue operation.
He said: “This attack has not only placed Anambra in an unfavourable light but has revealed the urgent need for stronger security measures across our state.
“Our thoughts go to the Nigerian Army, whose courageous response during the rescue attempt is deeply appreciated. We mourn with the families of the deceased and stand in solidarity with all who are grieving.”
“The people of Anambra deserve safety and security. Incidents like this should serve as a wake-up call for the government to fulfil its responsibility to protect lives and restore peace to our communities,” he added.
