Sule vs Ombugadu: Supreme Court to deliver judgment on Nasarawa guber dispute, Friday

The Supreme Court is set to deliver judgment on the gubernatorial dispute in Nasarawa State, January 19th.

The appeal was filed by David Ombugadu, the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, challenging the victory of Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress, APC.

Mallam Ali Abare, a media aide to Governor Sule, confirmed the news in a statement on Thursday, citing reliable sources.

This announcement follows the recent adoption of briefs of arguments from all parties involved, with the Supreme Court reserving judgment to a later date.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared APC’s Sule, the winner of the gubernatorial election held on March 18, 2023.

Dissatisfied with the results, PDP’s Ombugadu filed a petition at the Election Tribunal, which was granted on October 2nd.

Governor Sule contested the Tribunal’s decision, seeking redress at the Appeal Court. The Appellate Court eventually set aside the Tribunal’s judgment and reinstated Sule as the winner of the election.

Recall that leaders of both political parties recently signed a fresh peace accord in anticipation of the Supreme Court judgment.

Arogidigba Global Journal reports that the signing ceremony took place at the state Police Command Headquarters in Lafia, where the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, pledged to deal decisively with anyone who foments any form of trouble before, during, and after the judgment.
