The lawsuit seeking the removal of President Bola Tinubu from office has been dismissed by the Supreme Court.
Filed by Ambrose Aworu, the presidential candidate of the Hope Democratic Party in the 2019 general elections, the suit sought Tinubu’s removal based on Central Intelligence Agency and drug allegations.
On Monday, December 16, 2024, the apex court unanimously held that the suit was frivolous and that Owuru be fined the sum of N5 million.
The five-member panel led by Justice Uwani Abba-Aji also warned the Supreme Court Registry against accepting any frivolous originating summons from the plaintiff again.
Among other claims, Oworu alleged that President Tinubu is an active agent of the CIA of the United States, which according to him, makes him unqualified to be Nigeria’s president.
He urged the court to disqualify Tinubu over the forfeiture of $460,000 to the government of the USA in a drug-related case.
Other defendants in the suit are the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, as well as the Independent National Electoral Commission.
