The Students Union Government of Lagos State University has said academic activities will continue on Monday despite the industrial action declared by the Joint Action Committee of the institution.
According to the union, only members of the Non Academic Staff Unions of the university are going on strike.
In a letter signed by its President and Public Relations Officer, Ayomide Adebobola and Mouyon Asikoto, respectively, on Saturday, the union assured the students of undisrupted academic activities.
The Lagos State University Joint Action Committee had declared an indefinite strike due to the reported government’s inability to meet the workers’ demands.
The industrial action was declared through a statement titled “Notification of the JAC’s Indefinite Strike Action”, which was signed on Friday by chairmen of ASUU, NAAT, NASU and SSANU-LASU.
The statement partly read, “In consonance with the decision of the Joint Action Committee of the Lagos State University Staff Unions in its letter to the Governor, dated 19th November 2024, in which we reiterated that if the State Government failed to accede to our demands with regards to the implementation of the reports of the Committees put in place by Government by the 6th of December 2024.
“We hereby notify you and the management of the university that all the staff unions have declared a total and indefinite strike action, effective from the 6th December 2024, after the day’s close of work.
“Much as we appreciate your efforts at resolving this matter amicably, we note that the government has for long taken our members for granted as they seem not to be responsive and sensitive to the welfare of our members. We thank you for your kind gesture and support always.”
