The Yoruba Cultural Heritage in France has urged the government at all levels, individuals, and the organized private sector to extend assistance to the families of those who lost their loved ones in the stampede that occurred last December in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.
This appeal was contained in a statement issued and signed by the leader of the group, Oba Bamidele Aderounmu, who commiserated with the government and people of Oyo State over the tragic loss of lives during the stampede.
He appealed to the government at all levels and philanthropists planning to organize empowerment and palliative programs for the less privileged in the future not to politicize the distribution of such initiatives.
He also advised that adequate measures be put in place to prevent the loss of lives, expressing sympathy for the victims of the stampede and their families.

Speaking further, Oba Bamidele Aderounmu called on the government to address the current economic challenges confronting the country, noting that the widespread hunger was responsible for stampedes over food and other palliatives, which have claimed lives in different parts of the country.
Oba Aderounmu said, “On behalf of the Yoruba Cultural Heritage in France, I am writing to extend my deepest and most heartfelt condolences to you and your family during this time of unimaginable grief and sorrow.
“It is with profound and deep sorrow that we extend our heartfelt condolences to the grieving parents and families who have lost their beloved children in the devastating stampede that occurred at the Islamic High School, Bashorun District, Ibadan, Nigeria.
“This is a tragedy of unimaginable scale, and our hearts ache for the lives lost and the families forever impacted.”
He added, “We stand united with the affected families, offering our deepest sympathies and unwavering support during this time of unspeakable grief.
“The loss of these wonderful children is a tragedy that touches the core of our humanity, and as a community, we mourn together.
“This tragedy serves as a painful reminder of the importance of vigilance and preparedness in ensuring the safety of our communities.
“We trust and have full confidence that the government and relevant authorities will handle the situation with the utmost diligence and care by implementing measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
“In this time of mourning, we urge everyone to come together in solidarity and support for the affected families.
“Let us offer not only our prayers but also practical assistance to those in need as they navigate this harrowing ordeal.
“We stand in solidarity with the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, Alhaji Oriyomi Hamzat, Olori Naomi Silekunola, and the Principal of the school, Mr. Fasasi, trusting in their commitment to address the concerns arising from this incident with compassion and urgency.”
