Stakeholders in Sokoto State have lauded the USAID State2State initiative for its pivotal role in strengthening the state’s information sector.
This recognition was expressed during a two-day state communications strategy implementation review meeting held in Sokoto.
Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed, Permanent Secretary of the Sokoto State Ministry of Information and Orientation, praised the program for fostering improved communication between the government and its citizens.
“We deeply appreciate the remarkable support from USAID State2State. The impact is evident in the enhanced capacity and output quality across our Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). I encourage all participants to build on this progress and ensure the effective dissemination of government activities,” he said.
Dr. Abdulkadir Ladan, Sokoto State Team Lead for USAID State2State, emphasized the meeting’s purpose: to evaluate progress, address challenges, and refine strategies for better outcomes.
“The goal is to review and improve the communication strategy while addressing obstacles faced during the implementation of the current framework,” Ladan explained.
The meeting featured a comprehensive review of the existing communication strategy led by Israel Odiba, State2State Communication Specialist. Discussions included the implementation of the scope of work (SOW), action plans from prior orientation sessions, and group activities targeting critical areas in communication.
On the second day, Dalhatu Magori, Chairman of the Sokoto State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), opened proceedings with a recap of the first day’s highlights. Participants conducted a gap analysis of the state’s communication strategy, identifying delivery challenges across MDAs, unmet objectives, and evolving needs.
A key session focused on revising and prioritizing the strategy, addressing identified gaps, and setting priorities for the upcoming quarter. Participants also exchanged insights on overcoming communication barriers, leveraging digital platforms, and adopting inclusive approaches to ensure broader reach and effectiveness.
The meeting concluded with the development of a detailed action plan for the next phase of implementation. Roles, responsibilities, timelines, and milestones were assigned to ensure the seamless execution of the updated communication strategy.
This review meeting underscored USAID State2State’s commitment to supporting Sokoto State in fostering effective governance through improved communication practices.
