The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Universities and Allied Institutions (NASU) has declared that their strike will persist despite the Federal Government’s release of only one month’s salary out of the four months owed to university workers.
On Saturday, the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation announced the release of the withheld salaries, yet this partial payment has not changed the unions’ determination.
SSANU National President Mohammed Ibrahim pointed out that many university officials, including Vice-Chancellors, bursars, and registrars, are also affected by these salary delays, exacerbating the disruption of university operations nationwide.

Ibrahim emphasized the strong compliance among union members, stating, “98 percent of our members have complied with the strike, and we will not return to work until our demands are fully met.”
He confirmed that while some members have started receiving payments, only one month of the four months owed has been released.
“Yes, they paid one month out of four months. We shall be meeting to appraise the situation. Not everyone has received so far,” he added.
The indefinite strike, which began on Monday, has led to a complete shutdown of university activities across the country.
