The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, on Sunday, congratulated the African Newspapers of Nigeria Plc, publishers of the Tribune titles, on its 75th anniversary.
The newspaper outfit was established in November 1949 by a Pan-Africanist and former Premier of Nigeria’s defunct Western Region, the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo.
Speaker Abbas, who described Tribune as a legacy newspaper, acknowledged the media outfit’s significant impact in Nigeria during the pre-colonial, colonial, and post-colonial eras, particularly in the old Western Region and the current South-West geopolitical zone.

While commending the Awolowo family for sustaining the legacies of their patriarch, the Speaker also extended his congratulations to the management of ANN Plc for ensuring the continued success of the newspaper.
Recognizing Tribune‘s invaluable contributions to Nigeria’s democracy, Speaker Abbas urged the Tribune titles to continue upholding the ethics and standards of good journalism in the country.
