South West Security Stakeholders Group (SSSG) has restated its commitment to secure Yoruba land, vowing that the group would not allow kidnappers to take over the region.
The group, however, urged the six governors of the region to support an initiative aimed at addressing the security scourge in Yoruba land, insisting that it was ready to salvage the situation in the region.
SSSG gave this vow on Monday in a statement made available to newsmen by its spokesperson, Ireti Adewole, shortly after the meeting with the leadership of the 15 security outfits in Ikeja, Lagos, saying that there was an urgent need to restore peace and tranquilly across the region.
The group, while vowing not to rest on its oars, said the struggle was about creating the needed synergy to combat the spate of insecurity, adding that it was about using the best approach to keep all the stakeholders on their toes by checkmating the marauders in order not to “allow evil men to overrun our region.”
“The meeting held today is part of the ongoing efforts of the South West Security Stakeholders Group (SSSG) to ensure that Yoruba land is safe.
“We are not resting on our oars. We are determined to rid Yoruba land of kidnappers and bandits.
“The crux of our meeting is to set the agenda for securing the South West region from those uncivilised elements that are ravaging Yoruba land and making life unbearable for our kinsmen.
“The struggle is about creating the needed synergy to combat the spate of insecurity. It is about using the best approach to keep all the stakeholders on their toes. We are ready to keep marauders at bay, and we will not fold our arms to allow evil men to overrun our region,” the security group said.
SSSG, however, appreciated the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, for convening the Yoruba Security Summit in Ile-Ife, Osun State, saying that the efforts of the foremost monarch would go a long way in combating the twin menaces of kidnapping and banditry in the South West.
The group equally acknowledged the contributions of the Aareonakakanfo of Yoruba land, Iba Gani Adams, who is also the convener of SSSG, saying that his efforts had paid off with the summit.
“As far as we are concerned, the progress made so far in nipping the rising insecurity in the bud in the South West is yielding results.
“We see the results of the Yoruba security summit in Ile Ife, which, of course, was the idea and initiative of our leader, Iba Gani Adams, and I believe many more security outfits will be coming on board to salvage Yorubaland,” SSSG said.
