Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South-West zone have declared that the party in the zone is now united.
The declaration came at the South West Zonal Executive Committee meeting held at the Oyo State Government House, Ibadan, which had in attendance, for the first time, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and his Osun State counterpart, Senator Ademola Adeleke.
The meeting also saw the ratification of Mr Kamarudeen Ajisafe from Osun State as the new national Vice Chairman (Southwest) of the party.
Chief among those who made the declaration of a united South-West PDP were the governors of Oyo and Osun; the deputy national chairman (South) of the party, Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja and the new national Vice Chairman (South-West), Mr Kamarudeen Ajisafe.
Speaking, Makinde declared: “South-West is fully united.”
Noting that the 2023 election came with its divisiveness, misgivings, and in-fightings, among party members, he said it was time to forge ahead with a united front.
Arguing that such in-fightings were characteristics of politics, he stressed that a united South-West PDP would pave the way for a united party nationwide.
Speaking in the same vein, Arapaja said it was epochal that the two governors attended the PDP South-West meeting for the first time, and jointly agreed to Ajisafe being the next chairman of the party in the zone.
Arapaja stressed that with the South West PDP being united, the party will live up to its renowned leadership role in the country.
Speaking, the new South-West PDP Chairman, Ajisafe said with the governors of Oyo and Osun now on the same page regarding the party, it would be preposterous to see anyone want to sabotage the strive for a united party in the zone.
He committed himself to continued discipline, adherence to party rules, reconcilation of the party in the zone.
Also present at the meeting were members of the PDP Board of Trustees led by Senator Adolphus Wabara; governors Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Olusegun Mimiko; Senator Biodun Olujimi; Honourable Ladi Adebutu, Chief Iyiola Oladokun; Chief Eddy Olafeso; and executive council members of the party across states of the South-West.
