The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has revealed that it intends to begin an investigation into the recent airstrikes on villages in Sokoto.
On Wednesday, the military exercise which took place around 7 am at Gidan Sama and Rumtuwa communities in Silame Local Government Area resulted in the death of 10 civilians, with many injured.
Residents revealed that animals were also part of the casualties and that the impact of the airstrikes also destroyed houses.

It was gathered that Lakurawa terrorists in the areas were the target of the fighter jet but unfortunately, explosives were dropped on some innocent people.
Addressing the tragic incident in a statement, the joint media coordinator for the operation, Abubakar Abdullahi said the locations targeted were confirmed to be associated with the Lakurawa terrorist group.
According to Abdullahi, all military operations are based on “thorough intelligence and reconnaissance missions” to ensure precision and protect civilian lives.
“These reports have raised concerns; however, it is crucial to clarify that all military operations are conducted based on thorough intelligence and reconnaissance missions,” he stated.
In his reaction, NAF spokesperson, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa emphasized that airstrikes were carried out based on credible intelligence from multiple sources and confirmatory aerial surveillance.
He added that a thorough investigation would be conducted.
“The airstrikes were conducted based on credible intelligence from multiple sources, along with confirmatory aerial surveillance. Nevertheless, reports of possible harm to civilians will be thoroughly investigated and we will update you appropriately,” Akinboyewa said.
