A distress video showing the final moments of Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District in Sokoto State, has emerged online.
The traditional leader has reportedly been killed by bandits after weeks in captivity.
Bawa and his son were abducted in July while traveling from Sokoto to Sabon Birni. According to Gobir, one of the monarch’s sons, bandits opened fire on their vehicle, causing it to crash, which allowed them to seize the Emir and his driver, who is also his son.
Days after the abduction, the kidnappers demanded a N1 billion ransom for their release. A video later surfaced online showing the Emir pleading for his life. Speaking in Hausa, he described their dire situation and urged the government to intervene.
‘The bandits released a video showing the leader pleading for his life and appealing to the government for help,’ Idris4Peace, an X user, reported.
Tragically, the pleas for help were ignored, and the bandits ultimately executed the Sarkin Gobir. The news, along with the distressing video, was shared on Wednesday by Idris4Peace on X.
