The Sokoto State Government has pledged its unwavering commitment to eliminating malaria across the state, recognizing the serious health threat the disease poses to society.

This assurance was given on Friday by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Faruku Umar Abubakar Wurno, during an event organized to commemorate the 2025 World Malaria Day.

The event, held at the Epidemiological Unit of the Specialist Hospital, Sokoto, was organized by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the State Malaria Elimination Agency and Malaria Consortium.

Dr. Faruku Abubakar highlighted the devastating impact of malaria, particularly on pregnant women and children, and called on citizens to adopt preventive measures to protect themselves and their families.

He emphasized that the state government remains resolute in its efforts to combat malaria and other diseases affecting the well-being of the people.

He stressed the importance of collective action in the fight against the disease.

Other speakers at the event included the State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Hadiza Ahmad Shagari; the Zonal Program Manager of Malaria Consortium, Faruku Namallam Yabo; the Secretary of the Sultanate Council Committee on Health, Alhaji Musa Galadanci; and a representative of the Society for Family Health, Pharmacist Ummulkarthum Muhammad, among others.

The event underscored the state’s commitment to achieving a malaria-free Sokoto and called on all stakeholders to intensify efforts toward the elimination of the disease.
