In a landmark move that underscores his administration’s commitment to inclusive development and humanitarian support, the Governor of Sokoto State has approved the purchase of a property valued at ₦100 million to permanently shelter Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
The property, previously owned by a compassionate individual who had hosted the IDPs for several years, has now been officially acquired by the government following a memo presented during the State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
The Governor’s decision reflects his continued resolve to protect and support vulnerable citizens affected by conflict or natural disasters.
According to the State Commissioner for Information, Sambo Bello Danchadi, “These are people who have suffered immense losses—homes, properties, and even loved ones.
“By securing this property for them, we are not only providing shelter but restoring dignity and hope.
“This house will remain a government asset to serve current and future IDPs, ensuring no one is left behind.”
In addition to this humanitarian gesture, the Council also approved several multi-billion naira infrastructure projects aimed at transforming the state’s road network and boosting economic activities:
-
Construction of Zurumi Roads at the Gao Nama Market: Approved at a cost of ₦123,625,666.05 and awarded to ZBC Nigeria Limited, the same contractor currently handling critical link roads across the state.
-
Reconstruction of Pavements and Islands on 27 Dualised Roads: This includes roads within the metropolis, such as Shehu-Shargali, Maniru Road, Kano, and Maiduguri road axis. The contract, worth ₦3.64 billion, has been awarded to Roads Nigeria Limited, with a six-month completion timeframe.
-
Rehabilitation of the Margai-A-Town Road and Gebi Bridge in Kebbe: Severely damaged by last year’s floods, this project includes additional structural works and is valued at ₦2.71 billion. It will also be handled by Roads Nigeria Limited.
These approvals reflect a comprehensive approach to infrastructure renewal, economic resilience, and humanitarian care under the Governor’s leadership.
“The administration is not only building roads; it is building lives, reconnecting communities, and securing a future where every citizen feels seen and supported,” Danchadi added.
