A senior aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has described embattled Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, as a scammer.
Olayinka, who is Wike’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, suggested that Ekpa was jobless.
He made the remark while wondering how Ekpa established a football team to participate in a FIFA-organized tournament.
Posting on X, Olayinka wrote: “If your children ask you today how a jobless Simon Ekpa was able to scam you, what would you tell them?
“He even said he founded Biafra National Football Team and that they will be participating in international football tournaments.
“No one could ask him just a simple question, “International Football Tournament organized by FIFA or which body?”
On Thursday last week, the Finnish authorities arrested Ekpa alongside four others for terrorism-related activities and they were subsequently detained by the Päijät-Häme district court for “spreading terrorist propaganda on social media”.
The Finnish National Bureau of Investigation, NBI, disclosed that Ekpa, a dual citizen of Finland and Nigeria, is suspected of public exhortation to commit offences with terrorist intent. The charges also include suspicions of financing terrorism.
Arogidigba Global Journal reports that a senior Detective Superintendent at Finland’s National Bureau of Investigation, Mikko Laaksonen, said Ekpa would be tried in May 2025.
