There is uneasy calm in Rivers State following the declaration of a state of emergency in the state, as shop owners have quickly closed for the day, rushing homes to their families
Also, motorists and residents were seen rushing home as soon as news of the state of emergency filtered into the state.
Meanwhile, our reporter, who visited the Government House along Azikiwe Road in Port Harcourt at about 9 pm observed the movement of some vehicles steaming with full lights just outside the main gate of the Government House.
It could not be ascertained if the governor was about to leave or what the vehicles were up to.
People were also seen on some streets near their houses and homes discussing the latest issue, creating anticipation for what is next in the state.
Some residents expressed dismay over the announcement and blamed the political actors for what had happened.
Unlike under normal circumstances, the roads were devoid of the usual vehicular activities as transporters were barely seen.
Meanwhile, a few residents who were still outside were observed to be racing home for fear of the unknown.
A resident, IB, who spoke to our correspondent said, “This is not good for the state because it will affect social and economic activities. This is what the politicians have caused for us. Now they too can rest. ”
