Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the Commander General of Kano State Hisbah, has announced his resignation from his position. This decision comes after criticism from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf regarding the handling of moral issues by the Kano Hisbah under Daurawa’s leadership.
Governor Yusuf expressed dissatisfaction with the approach of Kano Hisbah in combating immorality during a gathering with Ulamas at the Kano Government House on Thursday, February 29. This criticism followed the recent arrest of a popular TikToker in Kano, Murja Kunya, for allegedly spreading immorality on her page. Despite being remanded in prison by a judge, Kunya was released before her scheduled court appearance, leading to speculation of external influence on her release.
Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa has served as the Commander of the Hizbah Board three times, from 2011 to 2015, from 2015 to 2019, and from 2023 to 2024. Feeling unsettled by Governor Yusuf’s remarks, Daurawa announced his resignation on his Instagram page, stating that he had made efforts to uphold morality in Kano, including addressing issues involving TikTokers, but to no avail.
He issued this statement from Kaduna, where he was attending a retreat organized by the Kano State Assembly. Additionally, Daurawa extended an apology to Governor Yusuf for any concerns raised regarding his work. Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa is a well-known Islamic cleric in northern Nigeria.
