A former Senator representing Sokoto East Senatorial District in Sokoto State, Senator Ibrahim Gobir, has expressed confidence in the Federal Government’s efforts to address the issue of insecurity in Nigeria.
Gobir, speaking in an interview with journalists in Sokoto, expressed optimism that the government is now taking the issue seriously and is ready to take bold steps to address it.
Gobir, however, stated that his main concern is the issue of insecurity in his area, which has been affecting him for quite some time.
The former Senator, who now represents the North West geopolitical zone at the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), has been vocal on the issue of insecurity, revealing that he has been engaging with the government and security agencies to find a lasting solution to the problem.
He commended the government’s efforts in tackling banditry, stating that if the government had taken action two years ago, the situation would not have escalated.
He, however, urged the federal government to intensify its efforts to ensure that the situation is brought under control.
On the issue of the relationship between Nigeria and Niger, Gobir stated that the recent tensions between the two countries would not have any negative impact on his people.
He revealed that the government has understood the situation and is taking steps to address it.
Gobir also expressed confidence that the situation would be resolved soon, stating that many people have understood that there is no need to attack anybody.
He commended the government’s efforts in sending reputable individuals to Niger to resolve the issue.
