Following its inability to conclude budget defence sessions before the 24 January deadline, the Senate has extended its plenary break to allow for further consultations.
The House of Representatives had on Friday announced the extension of its plenary to the same date for the same reason.
Clerk of the Senate, Mr Andrew Nwoba, made this known in an internal memo dated Friday, 24 January, addressed to all Senators with the title, “Change in Resumption Date.”
It read:
“Dear Distinguished Senators,
“Please be informed that there is a change in the resumption date due to the ongoing budget defence. It has been rescheduled from Tuesday, 28 January 2025, to Tuesday, 4 February 2025, at 11:00 am prompt.
“Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.”
The Senate had initially set 30 January 2025 as the date for passage of the budget. It was scheduled to resume plenary on Tuesday, 28 January, for consideration of the budget report to be submitted by the Committee on Appropriations.
Submission of reports by respective committees to the Appropriations Committee began on Thursday.
