Security operatives on Wednesday broke into the Benue State secretariat of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Makurdi, carting away computers, communication gadgets and manhandling party officials.
The security operatives also vandalized air conditioners, television sets, chairs and vehicles parked within the premises of the secretariat.
Addressing journalists on Sunday at the secretariat, the Director of Media and ICT, Amb. Martinez Tyotsume, said all offices were broken into by the security agencies suspected to be security details of the governor
While condemning the incident, Tyotsume said the intentions of the security operatives remain suspicious as some unknown officials of the Ehaje Ward 1 EXCO purportedly suspended the State Chairman Comrade Austin Agada.
He said the attack was massive and destructive as all offices were broken into including that of the chairman.
“This trend is worrisome as it is believed that the incident is targeted at destabilizing the party as the governor is ostensibly out to fight stakeholders,” Tyotsume said.
He said the Benue APC will use all legal means to protect the interest of the chapter.
Tyotsume added that the chapter believes in the rule of law and due process and has reported the matter to the security agencies and the national leadership of the party.
