The Social Democratic Party (SDP) Katsina has dragged the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission (KTSIEC) to court over its stringent guidelines on the conduct of forthcoming local government elections in the state.
This is contained in a Press statement issued and signed by the Katsina state chairman of the party, Alhaji Bello Adamu Safana.
He noted that the imposition of non-refundable fees of three million and one million for those contesting for the post of chairman and councillor runs contrary to Democratic norms and the right to elect leaders.
Safana added that they have gone to court to seek the interpretation of the law to determine whether KTSIEC has operated within the law by introducing such stringent measures.
He argued that their aim of going to court is to ensure a credible election and the election of qualified leaders.
The Higher Court Katsina has fixed today Monday 24th June for hearing on the case.
Tribune correspondent gathered that the LG elections which are scheduled to be conducted in February 2025 are full of commotion with even members of the APC ruling party in the State crying about imposition of candidates by the government.
