Rotary Club of Ibadan Prestige on Thursday donated medical equipment to Ago Tapa Primary Healthcare (PHC) Centre, Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State.
The equipment donated includes stethoscopes, Aneroid sphygmomanometer, mechanical baby scale, personal scale, among others.
Present at the presentation were the immediate past president of the club, Akintoroye Omowumi Joy; vice president, Oluwatobi Oduntan; past president, Obafemi Olusola; and Charter president, Ladeinde Folake.
In his address, president of the club, Mr Oluwaseye Famoriyo, said the gesture was in line with Rotary’s Maternal and Child mandate, which is one of the club’s cardinal objectives.
The programme also featured health talks on antenatal, pregnancy and postnatal to users of the centre and residents of the area.
The president said he is optimistic that the donation would meet some of the needs of the health centre, adding that they would do more to assist women and. children who use the healthcare centre.
Famoriyo said: “Rotary is a voluntary organisation and we are to serve humanity in our immediate environment, so we try as much as possible to make a difference in our community.
‘”We have to constantly let people in our community feel our impact.
“As a result, July normally is the maternity and maternal healthcare month, so, we go to different healthcare centres to donate basic medical equipment to assist workers in the discharge of their duties.
“In the past, we normally donated consumables, but we are just changing gear this year, and it is hoped that these will go a long way in helping our health workers.”
The club’s Project Service Director, Omotolani Sotiloye, charged the matron of the centre to judiciously make good use of the equipment donated, adding that they would improve the quality of healthcare services
in the centre.
In her remarks, the matron, Adegboyega Subair Adekunbi, lauded the Rotary Club for the gesture.
She said the items would go a long way in making equipment available for workers at the centre.
