The House of Representatives on Wednesday resolved to investigate the cause of the abandoned Agbado-Isoye Water Scheme in Ifo Local Area of Ogun State
In addition, the House urged the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation to activate the process of resumption of work at the site of the Agbado-Isoye Water Scheme immediately
The House also mandated the Committees on Water Resources and Appropriations to make provisions for the completion of the outstanding components of the Agbado-Isoye Water Scheme Project in the 2025 Budget estimates
These followed the adoption of a motion titled “Need to Investigate the Abandoned Agbado-Isoye Water Scheme abandoned by the Federal Government at 54.37% completion stage” moved by Hon Isiaka Ayokunle Ibrahim (APC-Ogun) at the Plenary
While moving the motion, the lawmaker said that ” the House: Notes that the Agbado-Isoye Water Scheme as a regional water project conceptualised to compensate the people of Agbado; Oke-Aro Ibaragun, Akute Ajuwon, and Isheri-Ojodu Wards in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State from the World Bank assisted Lagos State Government Iju and Oke-Aro Water supply projects, both of which are sited and located in the four Wards;
According to him, “the House also notes that the Agbado Isoye water scheme was captured in 2006, approved uncontroverted, and awarded the same year to Messrs. O. Hara Construction Company Ltd. for the sum of N560, 000, 000, and the project proceeded smoothly with the construction of massive industrial boreholes and groundwater storage tanks.”
He lamented that the project was later abandoned by the Federal Government at 54.37% completion stage.
He expressed concern at the high rate of abandoned federal government projects, despite the huge investment without achieving any result.
When the motion was put into voice by the Speaker, Hon Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the Plenary, It was unanimously supported and the resolutions were referred to the Committees on Water Resources and Appropriations for further legislative action
